# A named location is a hard rule

> When your brief names a city and a radius, the Sourcer decides who is in range in code. People outside the radius are never shown, and people whose location is unclear are shown, but never above confirmed ones.

A Swiss agency searched for a maintenance mechanic in Langenthal, 20 km max. The first result list still held people from Zurich, Basel and southern Germany. Every one of them was a wasted click and a rejected profile. This page explains what changed, and how to write the location line so the rule works for you.

## What the Sourcer does now

* **A named place with a radius is a gate, not a preference.** "Langenthal, max. 20 km" means: anyone whose stated location is outside 20 km of Langenthal is removed before screening. They never reach your list and never cost a credit.
* **The decision is made by code, from a map, never by the AI reading text.** An employer's headquarters is not treated as a person's home. "Headquartered in Langenthal" no longer passes anyone.
* **Unclear locations stay unclear.** "Switzerland" or "Greater Bern Area" is not proof either way. These people are screened and shown, marked as location unconfirmed, and they never rank above someone who is confirmed in range.
* **A canton, state or region is a membership rule, not a radius.** "Kanton Bern" means anyone inside the canton.
* **"Raum X" or "Region X" means about 30 km around X** unless you give a number.

## Writing the location line

Put the place in the Location line of your brief and add the radius right there. These all work:

* `Location: Langenthal (CH-4900, max. 20 km Umkreis)`
* `Location: Region Langenthal (Kanton Bern, Schweiz)`
* `Location: Zürich, within 30 km`
* `Location: Kanton Aargau`
* `Location: Remote, Sitz in Hamburg` (the named city wins; remote words are ignored)

Two or more places are fine: `Zürich oder Basel`, `Bern / Thun`. A person is in range if they are inside any of them.

<Tip>
  If a town name exists in more than one country, add the country or canton in brackets, for example `Langenthal (Kanton Bern, Schweiz)`. Without it the Sourcer cannot tell which Langenthal you mean, switches the location gate off for that search, and tells you so in the search trace.
</Tip>

## Reading the location on a card

Each person's card shows the distance the Sourcer measured, for example "12 km from Langenthal", or "Location unconfirmed (Switzerland)". This line comes from the map, not from the AI's summary.

## Leadership titles on a hands-on brief

The same search also returned team leads and department heads for a mechanic role. When your brief asks for a hands-on role without leadership, a person whose current title is clearly a leadership title (Teamleiter, Leiter Instandhaltung, Head of Maintenance and the like) is removed as well. Titles that only sound senior but are not leadership (Meister, Vorarbeiter, Projektleiter) are kept. If a title says "ohne Führungsverantwortung" or "no direct reports", the person is kept.

## What this does not do

* It does not guess where someone lives from their employer, their phone code or their photo. No stated location means unconfirmed, never out.
* It does not count drive time. The radius is a straight-line distance.
* It does not change searches without a named place. A brief that says only "DACH" or "remote" has no location gate.
