# GDPR and candidate data in Yena

> What GDPR means for recruiters holding candidate data, and where to find our terms.

Yena is built for European recruiters, and candidate data in recruitment is personal data under GDPR. Two documents govern how we handle it:

* Our [Data Processing Agreement](https://www.yena.ai/data-processing-agreement) covers Yena's role as a processor of the candidate data your firm controls.

## Your role vs ours

As the recruiting firm, you're the data controller for the candidates in your workspace; Yena is the processor. Deletion requests, retention decisions, and lawful-basis questions about your candidates are yours to decide, and Yena has to make them executable.
