# Organising clients and contacts

> Company records anchor every job and placement. Includes EU VAT validation via VIES.

Companies anchor everything in Yena: jobs belong to a company, placements are billed to one, and contacts live under one.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add the company">
    In **Clients (Companies)**, click **Add Company**. You can validate the client's VAT number against the EU registry (**VIES**) directly in the form; name, industry, website, and internal notes complete the record.

  <Step title="Track the relationship">
    Companies carry a **stage** (starting at Lead), an owner, open-jobs and contact counts, and the usual details: industry, size, website, email, phone, LinkedIn. Save filtered views for the slices you work daily.

<Tip>
  Importing a sourced candidate creates their current employer as a company record automatically. That is a market-mapping side effect worth having: after a few searches your database knows which companies the talent sits in.
